Congratulations, the feedback from the interview process is in and you are the clients first choice, what’s next?

As with every part of the job search for the opportunity to be perfect it has to be right for all parties, clearly the client is happy you are the right person for the job now you need to ensure they are the right company for you. Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Are you happy with the offer?
  • Does it align to what you were expecting?

If the answer to both is yes, then make sure you have all the details confirmed in advance so that you can move on to the next stage.

If you are unsure or need time to think about it then ask for it. Speak with your Consultant and be open and honest with them about the positives and potential reservations you have. Weigh the post up against what you were looking for and the alternatives of staying where you are or continuing to search for a new role and see how it sits. Speak to your trusted peers and if it comes to it write down the positives and negatives on a piece of paper to see what the outcome is – sometimes the old fashioned ways are the best.

Raise any questions with your Consultant, often we will know if there is room for maneuver on aspects such as salary or annual leave but we can also speak with the client on your behalf to clarify the situation. It is important here however to be realistic and go back to why you began your job search in the first place.

Now is the time to get things in writing – ensure you have all the details of your offer in writing via email or letter. Read through the details to ensure they are as you expected.

Enjoy it – this is what you came to your consultant for, you found the role you were looking for. It is now the time to be excited for the next stage of your career.
